I had classtoday so i only got in two short sessions so i probably played around 18 sngs today. In total though i finished the day up almost 100$ which put my bankroll over the big 1,000 marker. I am extremely happy with every part of my sng game. I have to say with as fast and more importantly, how consistently I am adding to the bankroll that this must be my best game. I really dont know what it is about my game that makes me so good at these that makes me so marginal at the cash games. Honestly I just think that the variance is much lower at the sngs. The bad players get out early and it becomes a match between 3-4 good players.
current bankroll = 1,036.55
Oh and I am not using my rakeback money to pad my bankroll any longer either. I put 100$ worth of rakeback money into my bank account today! GO ME!

new computer new passion
Ok wel alot has happened since my last post but in I havent really been playing a whole lot of poker in the month of september. With school starting and having to deal with rush and all of that good stuff I just hadnt been able to play a whole lot. Then my laptop finally died and I was forced to get a new one *the one im on now* and I could really not be any happier. I absolutely love it.
Due tot he fact that I didnt have my computer stats and anything I decided that I would cash most of my money out to play live and I would use the rest on sng's on fulltilt. Well I have run the 150 I have left on there to currently 890 with a spert at just above a thousand. I am steadily killing the 10 dollar sngs and realize that I might be rolled for the 20's but i definatly feel very comfortable with where I am at right now.
With the move to sng's I have a new set of goals for the month of October. During the month I would like to play roughly 1000 sngs. Most of which will be completed at the 10$ level. I dont think I am going to move into the 20's until my bankroll is at least 2000$ The reason for this is again comfort. I am making good money at this level and will stay here.
Another goal is that I would like to finish in the top 10 for full tilts low sng leaderboard. This would assure me at least a cool 100$ buy the end of the month, and a possible 200$. Another goal is that I can complete the iron man challenge for the month. It will be alot harder to do playing sngs but if I put in the hours that I plan on putting in, I really think that I can do it.
Also I have been writing out my session records and will be transfering this to an excel spreadsheet once I get a chance! Well I am currently in some sngs. Later!

Down to 1100 Moving to 50 nl
I cant play 25nl anymore. I just cant play it anymore being over bankrolled for it like I am. So after i get done with this post I will be moving to 50nl until i get knocked down to 750 at which point I will move back down to 25nl if I must. I cashed some rakeback money out so the finances are looking good and plus school has started so paying rent is no longer a problem. After looking back at my poker tracker stats so far this month, I am a winning player in every game but the 100nl in which i dropped 8 buyins =( ... I am going to start out the grind at 50nl and update my session tracker as far as that goes. Currently my bankroll is at 1100 so we will start from that point on.
here goes nothing...

Variance and a long session
So long story short on this session is that if i fold queens preflop every time I am up 250+. I decidied to play an extremely long session in which the variance of nl picked up on me. I bb/100 dropped from the previous high of 16 to a more reasonable number of seven. but here are the stats for todays session
session# 4

Still crushing 25nl
Hung out with cecily most of the day but got in some hands after she left. Really was an uneventfull session. I had a really nice suckout when i flopped 1st and third pair and the guy flopped top two. I cant ever say i dont suck out on anyone anymore, ha, I just wished it would occasionally happen when I am trying to play 50nl. I have gotten back into the habit of 12 tabling. I know this isnt the best ideal way to do things but for some reason it really doesnt effect my play as much as it does at 50 nl. When I am moving up to 50nl I will definatly be cutting the tables back.
Anyways stats for latest session :
session # 2
Hours - 1.81
hands - 2607
profit - +130.5
This puts my bankroll at about 1235. Also I am currently making 15.29bb/100 over 6300 hands at 25nl. I really feel like I am ready to move up but before I do, I really want to get in 50,000-75000 hands at this level while at the same time padding my bankroll. I will not be moving up to 50nl with anything less than 1500 and I am not going to be including rakeback in any of this. For the rest of the month I would like to be able to not even look at rakeback and reward myself with something nice at the end of the month.
I think I am going to take a break - its 345am and im still not tired so I may jump back into playing. Its the weekend so im sure there are some drunks at the low limits.

Struggles, Friends, and thank-yous
I havent played today, its been my first real day off in a while and im not going to lie, I am itching to play tonight. Everytime i think that I tweak my game, I am very anxious to test the new strategy out in the wild, and today is no different. Instead of playing today I hung out with a new girl cecily *not really important yet but will see* anyway shes hot and well hot girls are more important then poker but back to the point of this post.
When I was a freshman in college I had a decently serious heart condition that required surgery *not open heart or anything*. Anyways one of the alumi of my fraternity found out and called me to assure me that everything was going to be ok. It felt good to know that someone that had been through the same struggles that I had was there if I had any questions or frankly just needed someone to talk to.
You might ask what this has to do with poker, but let me relate it this way. I am striving to do this the rest of my life. Its what I love to do. I have been supporting myself for just under 6 months doing it live and I am trying to create an online bankroll. It hasent been as easy as it is for me live but what i must thank cardrunners so much for is the community of people going through the same thing that I am. It is so comforting to know that there are hundreds of people that have gone through the struggles that I have. Live I have one rounder buddy *mvpchipper on cardrunners* but I feel like online the whole cardrunner community is rooting for me to score, and score big. This is worth way more than the 9.99 I pay to be a member of the site. I have had several people message me on AIM asking how the transitioin to 50nl has been along with people commenting on my blog wishing me the best. For this I cant thank you enough. When the poker times get rough its good to know that someone has been there and that they got through it. Its inspiring, and to the cardrunner community, thank you very much!

killing .25/.5 again...
I have decided I am going to be posting much better stats of my daily play so that I can have an idea of how much I played and what the results were. After moving back down to 25nl I am crushing the game yet again. I am really beginning to think that I am one of the strongest players at this level on full tilt. Over the course of shorthanded play I am winning over 7bb/100 and this last session was no different. I ran really card dead and even had to preflop all-ins with AA get cracked by QQ both times. I am playing extremly tight aggressive 13/12/9 which i think is completly ok for this level. *hell it seems to be working* I am worried however that this will not pass at the upper levels and I really think I need to expand my range from the button so that players with pokertracker and pokerace see me as some nit. Im never going to get any action playing like this but I am not going to change my game until I move up and there is a problem.
The corrections that I made in this session were part of the reason I think the session went as well as it did. I made some laydowns tonight that I would have never made a week ago. Laydowns that would be nobrainers live are for some reason really hard for me online. I am getting better at it but I still made a questionable call with top two. I will be posting it on cardrunners to see what I did wrong. Hopefully I will be getting a lot of good responses.
Oh and I have decided that I will be labeling my sessions based on posts to this blog. I am doing that becuase I dont want to consider each day a session becuase I often play through the night passing midnight and I dont want a bad/good session to be mis interpreted becuase of the time. Since i am *starting over* I have decided to label this session as number one... So the results are
hours - 5.77
profit - + 104.5
# hands - 3736
bb/100 - 11.18

Starting Over
I have been reviewing my pokertracker stats thanks to a post in a 2+2 forum about ways to look for leaks in your game. I have found several and its really dissapointing and enlightening at the same time. Some are things that i think had I not chosen to 8-12 table i would have picked up on and others I think I would never have suspected had it not been for pokertracker. I am choosing to move down to .10/.25 to basically start over and see how I can beat the game with this new found improvement in my game. Im not necessarily expecting to crush it for 6.17 bb/100 like i did over my first 50,000 hands becuase honestly I still feel like that was a massive heater. Over four bb/100 and I will be happy as long as my stats are legit. I will be doing 50,000 hands at this level before I move back up to .25/.50. Hopefully this will improve my game to the point that I can jump up to .5/1 and 1/2 successfully.

Rakeback
I am so sick and tired of having to go to my rakeback to bail me out from bad beats. I am learning that when I am check raised just to let the hand go but today bad beats were sickening. Lets add them up
AK loses to 6s7s on AQ5 when running spades hit for flush...-50
Ak loses to AQ on a A82 board when queen hit on river - 43
KK loses to 1010 on 972 board when 10 hits river for biggest loss of night - 68
KK loses to Ah9d on Qd6d3d board when diamond hits on turn
77 loses to 58 when gutshot hits on river - 53
AK loses to Kh2h on KdQd3h board when running hearts come on turn and river - 37 dollar swing
55 loses to A10 on 10105 board when ace hits turn - 50 dollar swing
So in total bad beats added up for a grand total of 301 dollars. So basically if none of these beats happen my roll is at 1600 hundred instead of 1000.

The grind
Well im learning, that is in the art of bankroll management anyway. I just dropped 4 buyins at 50 nl and am back to grinding away at 25nl. I really feel like I am just running into huge coolers. I ran JJ into an open ended straight flush draw and it hit on the river. And I had several 70/30s that I lost for a total of fifty bux. I never got my money in bad and the badluck will surely go away. Im just getting really tired of grinding away at 25nl. Oh well its better than a real job. Im actually going to take a break from poker tommorow and enjoy some of the finer things in life - aka the pool...

Tighter more agressive
After reviewing the monster sessions I have been having retooling my game at 25nl I discovered something. I am playing much tighter and much more agressive. I am putting myself in as few marginal situations as possible and it is definatly working. I am actually very happy about that 700 dollar swing I took yesterday. It has helped me realize a major leak in my game and that was calling with semi decent hands out of postition. Cardrunners preaches that position in this game is everything and they are right on so many levels. I am going to go back up 50 nl with a 1400 dollar bankroll. That is 28 buyins 1 short of the thirty I would like but if i get down to 1200 I am stopping and heading back to 25nl. It wont take long to grind back up to 1500 playing 25nl due to the fact I am actually killing the game. Since I have gotten tighter i am beating the game for almost 15 ptbb/100.
Well off to 50nl
Well off to 50nl
Getting the confidence back
Wow what a swing the past 24 hours has been. It has been absolutely sick. My roll went from 1900(not including rakeback) down to 900 all the way back up to 1300. I can definatly handle a 600 dollar loss alot better than a thousand but like I said that wont ever happen again. I thought i was geting so good at this bankroll management thing that I could handle shooting up to 100nl. Well 4 sick hands and busto...
Anyways went back down to 25nl to get my confidence back and honestly I feel I play better when I am extremly over bankrolled for the level. My game shorthanded is sheer agression and when your betting on scared money it can really effect your playing style. Going to hit the tables!

ENDING THE HORRIBLE DAY
Well with my bankroll a fresh 800 light from getting my ass handed to me at 100nl I took a break and went down to 50 nl. What sucks is that I played very well at this limit and just got horriblely horribly bad beats. the river was the sick card for me everytime.
Starting over - I have about 1000 dollars left in my account from whats left of this horrible day. What I am deciding to do is start over. Think of this thousand as a fresh amount of money that I can grind back up.
I just got done reviewing some more pokertracker hands and realized that I have a horrible problem laying down to a checkraise with top pair. Almost all of the time I am beat and still call anyway. I need to realize the nickels and dimes I will be saving by not calling these raises. The other reason why I am moving to 25nl is because I honestly feel more comfortable playing with 40 buy ins right now until I get super confident about my game right now. Hopefully by the end of the month I will have 2,000 in my account again and will justify moving up to 50nl again...

Shot down at 100nl
just took the hit in the form of an 800 dollar loss at 100 nl. I never stacked anyone and really just lost 600 before I tilted off 200 more and quit... Im really dissapointed in myself for letting me hit a loss like that. The first 600 really wasent that bad as far as play goes. lost 3 100 dollar coinflips with ak against underpairs and had 3 really bad beats... the other 2 hands I should have been able to get away from but in the mindset I was in at this point i had gotten to what sklanksy calls the threshhold of pain and lets just say mine was gone... so bankroll is down to around 1300 and its time to rebuild I guess... I got some more rakeback money thats going into the account... i mean thats what its there fore is to bad swings like today...
bad day! gonna take a break and then move back to 50nl

Taking my shot at 100nl
Ok I have successfully moved up 2 limits in almost 3 weaks and I am not going to lie, I am very proud of myself. I cashed out my rakeback today, and put my roll at just over 2100. Thats 1 buyin more than the recommended but still 3 buyins short of what I wanted before I took my shot at the higher level, but i have a few reasons for taking the shot now. First the rakeback, the rakeback at this level will be so much higher. I think I can at least hold my own at this level (we will see). And second and most importantly I think im ready for the level. Ive got over 35,000 hands logged at 50nl and have gone through pokertracker and tried my best to plug many obvious leaks. I just created a itunes playlist and am about to jump in the shower and get ready to hit the tables.
Also I am planning on cashing out a little bit of money out of fulltilt but i am having problems and wont be able to set up my epassport account until monday. Oh well money in the bank shorty whatcha drank?

Plugging Leaks
Brian townsend has to be one of my favorite poker players. He is single handedly the only reason I joined cardrunners. His story is incredible, he started playing .25/.50 less than 2 years ago and has already moved up to playing the biggest games on fulltilt. He got here by studying his game relentlessly and for the first time in my *career* I am starting to do the same. With close to 50,000 hands logged I went into pokertracker and actually reviewed hands played in postition and I think i have found a leak in my game. I over value small pocketpairs out of position and will be changing the way I play them. Im not really sure yet but the true results should be seen when I jump to 100nl at the end of the month. Not only will i be playing bigger, but my rakeback is going to double as well. I cant wait till i get my raise =) 20 days and counting!
Fighting the downswing
Well I would love to think that my downswing is over - after my most recent session my bank roll is sitting at 1818.25. That does include 150$ in rakeback but I did cash out the other 150 I had in rakeback and should be coming to my house in the form of a nice little check. But as I mentioned I think that downswing is over. I think 3 things happen when a poker player is running well :
1) they get there hands to hold up
2) they get paid of when they have said hands
3) they suck out should they ever get there money in bad
Yesterday was one of those days where everything was clicking for me. I took my bankroll from just over 1400 and pushed it to slightly over 1700 and then put it over 1800 today. I guess the good thing about the swings in this style of play is that they go both way... hoooray for upswings!

The swings of the game
Im in the middle of a break from playing. I actually started the day down another 2 buyins and saw my profit for 50nl dip into the red. I still honestly was not tilted which I am very proud of. My tilt level has been almost non existent since I have switched to only playing 8-9 tables and by following good bank roll management.
Anyways after I quickly dropped 2 buyins I went on a tear making nearly 400 to bring my bankroll back up to a healthier 1803. This does include the 300 I pulled off of rakeback but I plan on cashing out 150 and putting that back into my live roll.
Gonna check some things out realy quick and then jump back on the tables...

When will this stop?
After I recovered from the six buy in down swing i took yesterday guess what just happened. Another six buy in down swing. The river cost me 5 all in pots. I just reviewed the hand history and there really wasent anything I could be doing any different in those pots. So instead of being a 3 hundred dollar + winner i am a 300 dollar loser. The beats I took today were just absolutely sickening! Time to go to bed.
I think I might be moving some money off of rakeback onto my account. Its there for the padding and frankly, right now I need it!
Current bankroll - 1212.95

Six buy in downswing
Started off running extremly shitty on tuesday. Wasent able to do anything and kept running into sets. I got 2 outted twice getting my money in good. So after dropping six buy ins i posted in cardrunners about it as my game was shaken. They responded by letting me know that swings like that are quite common for short handed play, especially when you are multi tabling as many tables as I am.
Wed - made a nice little chunk of the money I lost yesterday back. Went back to the pot size betting as it is faster and I really think at this level those are the size of bets that will make money in the long run. One interesting hand I had was AcKc all in against 5c9c on a 6c7c10h board. I lost and it made me frumpy but thats poker. Its late but I think I am going to get a few more hands in.
Also - just passed the 25,000 hand mark for 50nl. Im beginning to think that 75,000 hands for the month is going to be more realistic than the 100,000 hands I thought I would get it. oh well
Also its looking like my rake back for the month will be close to 1000
current bankroll - 1594.30

Refocused - better play
Last night I went out with alan and kulow to the bar and got home around 11 and decided to play some more. I would normally be angry at myself for typing this today becuase of the golden rule of *no drinking and playing* but I was far from drunk so I decided to anyway. I kept to the rule of only playing 8 tables that I set for myself earlier in the day and it paid off like crazy. I built my bankroll back up to 1798 and got my bb/100 back up to over 6.5. I was really happy with the session as it was the first one in a while that I got away from hands that I know I could get away from live. So far that has been the biggest leak in my online game. Hands that I know I could fold live, im calling with online. Im pretty sure part of the reason I am doing this is because the amount of money at 50nl is so much less than my live game of 300nl. My poker tracker stats agree with this as my hands won at showdown is almost 2 full percentage points higher at 50nl than 25nl. It makes sense, when someone checkraises at 25nl it could only be for 7 dollars and i might be priced in at 50nl it could be a 35 dollar check raise. Basically a checkraise that means something. Well Im going to play

Lack of Focus = bad session
I have been expieriementing with how many tables I can play at once. I really want to know how many tables I can handle before I move up. I was playing 12 tables today and while I got in a ton of hands I was calling people off like a complete donkey. I wasent focused and my reads were almost non existent as I called anyways. I realized that I can clearly focus on 8 tables and thats what I will do from here on out.
Today session was horrible as I went from 1815 down to 1560 The really first horrible session I have had since putting money onto full tilt. A five session swing is not really that bad playing as many tables as i do but It easily should have been a 2-3 session loss instead of a five. One hand was just bad apples when i ran kk in aa.
Decision on rakeback - I have figured out what I am going to do as far as rakeback goes. I am going to put half of rakeback into my bankroll and cash the rest of it out. I am only going to do so at the end of the month so that it is easier for me to determine how much money I am receiving in rakeback. The rakeback site just added a new calander so i can see how much I am earning in a day... well im gonna eat and then maybe play somemore...

Lost cell phone - bankroll management - when to move up
Today at some point my phone disapeared so tommorow i get to go get a new one. Kinda of shitty cuz I was going to have plans tonight but seeings as how I cant fucking call anyone guess its poker time.
When I logged into my account I noticed that i had received a 100$ bonus from Full Tilt for Nelson clearing his point quota for the referral. So hells yea a free hundred bucks. In other news my rakeback account is at almost 150$ which is damn good considering its only the fifth of the month and I dont plan on cashing it out until the end of the month. That would put my estimated rakeback totals around 900$. Pretty damn good if you ask me...
Now the issue of br management and moving up. With the 150 in rakeback, Full tilts bonus, and my curent bank roll of 1600 I am almost properly bankrolled to move up to 100nl. At lower levels I think that having 20 buyins is more than enough as I have not seen a swing more than 5bi either way for a level. However, 2 things are keeping me from moving up to 100nl. For one I definatly have a weakness in my game that is folding big overpairs on a rag bored. I tend to stack guys off knowing that I am beat. Its a leak in my game and I dont think I am going to move up until I feel that it is under control. Also, I only have about 13,000 hands logged at 50nl. Before I move up I would like to have closer to 30,000 but ideally will have 50,000 hands before I move up. I will however move up regardless if my br not including rakeback gets to 2400.
Well I am going to jump in the shower and then get out and play a little bit. i want to make sure to get my fulltilt points in for the night. So far I havent missed a day of the iron man challenge and I really dont want to start today. So shower and then off to the tables

Extremly tired session
After last post I played from 2:30 in the morning until 9:30 in the morning sandiego time as dad would not stop snoring. Anwyays, right off the bat I am down 3 buy ins. For the day I am down over 150 with aces and kings as they keep running into sets/idiots that call with j9. Anyways cant be to bitter becuase I eeeked out a small win of 62.75. I did however earn over 1500 full tilt points last night, so that makes me feel a little bit better about my 7 hour 62.75 dollar grinder.
Also I am doing very well with the goals I set for the month
I have completed every days iron man goals so far
I am already 11,000 hands completed for the month
My poker tracker stats after the first 1000 hands at .25/.5 look like this
total hands - 10,845
vol$ in the pot - 16.78
vol$ from sb - 28.12
folded sb to steal - 87.69
att to steal blinds - 19.74
won$ when seen flop - 40.17
amount won -556.45
bb/100 -10.26
went to sd -21.59
won at sd -54.11
pf raise - 10.82
flop af -6.20Publish Post
turn af - 3.31
river af -4.15
total af -4.85
I am very happy with them so far. I dont think maintaining this bb/100 can happen over thirty thousand hands but im crossing my fingers.
In other non poker related news My cousin is getting married tonight and I will be getting shithoused. So more than likely no poker tonight. I think i got enough in early this morning anyway.

bad marathon session and no sleep
well I played alot today. First I was running amazing and continued on the heater I was on. I pushed my bankroll to over 1700 at some point and my bb/100 was at like 19/bb100 after like 5500 hands or something. Well of course that isnt maintainable and the downswing occurred. It was actually pretty sick. I was seeing horrendous beats. But ah thats poker.
Tonight was ricks rehersal dinner, It was fun, I left early to go home to go to sleep but dad snores like a jackhammer so I got no sleep. Its actually five in the morning right now and Im about to put in another session at the tables and try and win some of that money back that I lost earlier. My plan is to play until they all get up and then actually try and get some sleep .
Last session : down 119.90 current bankroll is at - 1577.25

Short session this morning
woke up around nine when the parents and cody went to seaworld. I was way to tired, getting in at three thirty drunk on top of jet lag didnt cause for a 9 am wake up. Dicked around on cardrunners for a while and then played an extremely short session when the cousins came knocking on the hotel room door...

Trip to San diego and a huge heater
I am currently in San diego for my cousins wedding. Today was the second full day of playing at .25/.50 and after 3100 hands I finished up 366.95 which put my bb/100 at 23.40... Pretty happy. Tommorow Im not going to play as much, Im just going to get my 200 ft points and then quit. I really want to get in on this iron man challenge. It seems like an extremly easy way to get free stuff.
August Goals and Current Bankroll
I have basically decided to quit playing live until I am properly bankrolled for the game and have set some pretty ambitious goals for my online play - they are
:Complete Iron man Challange on Fulltilt for month of august
:maintain at least a 4bb/100 at .25/50 (5.87 at .10/.25)
:have 20 buyins for .50/1 by september 1
:log 100,000 hands - hopefully some at .50/1 if bankroll gets to 2300+
Current bankroll is at 1,553.05

First Post
Myeah, Dont really know how to start out my first post so ill just go with that. My name is nick harris and I am a 21 year old finance major that is currently attending the University of memphis. This is going to document my poker life and the swings involved in playing poker for a living. For those that dont know Ill give you a little history on my game:
I started playing in highschool at .25/.50 games that ran just about everynight, there was only one other kid there that had any idea what he was doing. This is when I first realized that maybe playing cards for a living was possible.
Anyways, college came around and I dicked around online sites playing heads up - built up a 2000 dollar roll and then blew it on a tv. I take that back I didnt blow it, I invested in a 50" sony wega lcd that is now my computer monitor. It is pretty badass for multitabling.
Then I met this girl, fell in love, and basically gave up on cards. I was basically ready to walk the straight and narrow as she had cystic fibrosis and poker wasent going to be job that could get her insurance. Anyways long story short after two years we break up and I dive back into cards headfirst. I live in memphis and Tunica is just thirty minutes away. Lets just say that a straight flush is a great way to mend a broken heart.
So I continued to play more and more and began to hate my job as a mail sorter/typist more and more as well. I had been running extremely well in Tunica and decided one weekend that if i did well I would quit my job and focus on playing cards. I won 1100 that weekend which is about what two months at work would have paid. So for lack of a better description I have been a professional card player since april.
Recently after the bankroll took a monster dive I decided that playing 1-3nl in tunica wasent the smartest thing to do. I had about 2000 left and realized that I was extremly underbankrolled for 1-3 and decided that I better invest my poker money elsewhere. So i bought into cardrunners and recently began learning shorthanded play. I put 300 on fulltilt and had that up to a grand in 2 weeks 6-8 tabling the .10/.25 game. I moved up to .25/.50 and have been on a huge heater. im up almost 600 in 5,500 hands.
anyways theres the first post... going to immediately post another above containing august goals
